After getting taken in by the greatest con-job of the galaxy, humanity has been decimated. As far as Ethan Irons knew, he and Jarred were the only surviving humans. Actually, there were a few more. The Draconith had surprisingly agreed to go back to Earth and rescue any survivors. They hadn’t expected to find many since the evil Seraphis, an Akakie bug species, had returned to Earth and re-released the virus that had previously killed billions of humans. Of all Earth’s humans, only thirty-four were still found alive. They had hidden in deep bunkers.
Unfortunately, one not-so-deep bunker was harboring Ethan’s son, Jamie. He was there by himself without either of his parents having fled there during the latest Akakie attack. But, someone had come and found him. That someone was Seraphis, himself. That was going to have a great impact at the end of this story.
Still, now Commodore Irons and Colonel Jarred were petitioning the Draconith Supreme Prefect for support to send their fleet to wipe-out the Akakies. They were surprisingly being supported by Prefect Valdina, another Draconith, and one that had spoken to Ethan while he was killing her brother in their previous con-job war. She knew that Seraphis was ultimately responsible for what the humans had done, so she had set aside her feelings to help Ethan and Jarred in their quest to kill Seraphis and then entire Akakie species!
Still, the Draconith had already been hit by Seraphis once and he had destroyed most of their fleet assets. What little they had left certainly wasn’t enough to confront the Akakies, especially at their home world. So, the Supreme Prefect denied their petition and wasn’t about to change his mind.
Yet, Valdina a Prefect herself, knew of a possible way to get done what needed to be done. She was going to commandeer a Draconith advanced corvette that had just been built using some advanced Thryxarian technology. The Thryxar were the most advanced species in the know galaxy. They had so far been ignored by Seraphis since he couldn’t match their technology, yet! Ethan figured that if they could get to the Thryxar and ask them for their support, they might have enough technology to over come the Akakies and Seraphis.
Stealing the corvette wasn’t going to be easy. It was commanded a legend in the Draconith military, Captain Zorlex. He definitely was not just going to give up his ship, even after Valdina explained to him what they wanted to do. Surprisingly, Captain Zorlex told Valdina that if she wanted his ship, he was going to be its captain and that was final. So, Ethan, Jarred and two other humans, Lieutenant Emily Johnson and Chief Petty Office Miguel Ramirez, plus Valdina, aboard the *Vanguard* headed toward Pyrox, homeworld of the Thryxar.
What they find there is going to change the whole complexion of this story. Yes, they’re going to find some help but not the kind you expect. They will also find another species, the Xortaag, who had also been almost destroyed by Seraphis! The Xortaag were more than willing to help and one of them specifically. She’ll make a great addition to their team.
Still, Seraphis has returned home to his home planet as a hero. He has been gone long, but now welcomes the adulation of his fellow Akakies who see what he has done as something wonderful. The death of billions of other sentient beings doesn’t bother Seraphis or his fellow Akakies. They believe they should be supreme over all other species.
Will Ethan be able to get his revenge? How does the fact that Seraphis has his son, Jamie, who Ethan believes died on Earth. The story will fortunately continue in book 3, “Shadow of Retribution”, now available on Amazon.
