Wrath of Gods

This book is unique in that while the last kind of ended everything, the author now chooses to restart the galaxy! He subtly did this by introducing two new characters, Zara and Lysander, who are god-like aliens. These two have been somewhat involved in the manipulation of humanity and all the other alien species. It’s a game to them and something to do so as not to be bored with their godly existence. Our human and alien characters have suffered mightily for their involvement, but that’s of no concern to Zara and Lysander. In fact, they are now going to go even further and reset everything just so they can win a bet.

In previous books, you know that Ethan Irons lost about everything dear to him when Earth was destroyed by Commander Seraphis, an Akakie, who was determined to not only destroy Earth, but all other alien races he thought would be a threat to his own. Well, Ethan and his Canadian friend, Jarred, along with some alien allies managed to defeat Seraphis on several occasions. They also had to tangle with an AI race that was again bent on destroying all living beings in the galaxy. While Ethan and Jarred and their friends had won the battles, they had lost a lot. Ethan only had his son, Jamie, but even then he didn’t get to see much of Jamie since he was off fighting so much.

Well, in this book, Zara and Lysander reset everything! Ethan wakes up next to his wife, Joyce, in his house as if this was something he had done forever! Yet, Ethan knows this ain’t right. He frantically tries to figure out what happened because it seems he’s not the only one to know that something is wrong. Even his wife wakes up and tells him about a strange dream she had where she was killed while aboard a starship working as the tactical officer. She can’t figure out how that could have happened since she just a Marine NCO and that’s all she’s been other than Ethan’s wife.

Ethan gets out and starts talking to his friends who also start relating they had a bad dream whereas they either were killed by each other or had some infection that robbed them of any further memories. Even Jarred, now in Canada, calls Ethan and asks him what’s going on. Then one of the god-like aliens comes to talk with Ethan. He is Lysander and he’s going to explain what’s going on even if Ethan can’t believe what he’s hearing. Lysander also transports Jarred to the Dunkin’ shop where they are meeting and Jarred doesn’t know how that happened. Once moment he was talking to Ethan on the phone and the next he’s standing next to him with some strange guy in front of both of them.

This is where Lysander tells them about the bet. He and Zara have chosen champions in a contest that will determine who survives. Zara, of course has chosen Seraphis and Lysander has chosen Ethan and Jarred. Now the rules are that Earth must survive any attack by the Akakies (Seraphis) for five years. If they do so, then everything goes back the way it was, well, before this new situation. If they don’t then, they’ll all be dead and Seraphis will eventually rule the galaxy. Ethan doesn’t necessarily like what he’s hearing since even if he wins the old timeline he was living doesn’t include his wife and a lot of friends that died while fighting Serapis. But he has no choice.

Now to make things a little even, Seraphis cannot unleash another virus upon Earth nor can he use his starships to rain down strikes agains the humans. No, he can only use his ground troops to subdue the Earth which also means killing Ethan and Jarred. Earth will be given plans for some advanced weapons so they can make an attempt at defending themselves but Ethan doesn’t think it’s going to be enough. Still, he is called to the White House to explain to the President of the US, what he had to do with this terrible dream he and his entire Cabinet had recently.

So, with some reluctance, the start getting the idea that Ethan and Jarred have been through enough with this alien Seraphis, that they should start building these new weapons and get ready for an Akakie invasion. Earth is never going to be ready no matter what they do. Surprisingly, every nation does begin cooperation because every human on Earth during the virus and zombie outbreak, knew they died the last time Earth was attacked. So, they get ready for a fight.

The book is pretty interesting in that the author has chosen to just start everything over again. All the people that died in the first five books are now alive and can be written about. This isn’t so bad, but the author also has to sound like someone stuck in the military for way, way too long. Every sentence he writes is an analogy. He can’t just say something simple, but instead has to tack on some military jargon or terminology as though his reads can’t understand anything military. I think most of his readers already have a significant military background so he needs to cut done on this military analogy thing. It’s really distracting and tiring after a while. That’s just my opinion a you may well like it.

This book also doesn’t end. We’re left with a cliffhanger so we’re definitely going to have to read book 7, “Legacy of Legends”, now available on Amazon.
