“A Rumor of War”

Rating:

Futuristic military sci-fi book cover with robots and space battle theme.

I think this series will go on forever! Here we are on the 28th book and Van Tudor is still finding enemies he has yet to destroy. This is not a new enemy and one that should have been taken care of a long time ago. The Stillness seems to be active on Earth and in the Solar System. Van and his crew of the Fafnir are not sure who is actually controlling the Stillness, but they seem to have a very dangerous interest in the Fist of Orion and specifically Van himself. Except now they seemed to have move their targeting cursor over to the kids of Van and Torina, Gabby and Funboy, and Icky and Paxomar.

Van friends and family have all been working at the Nexus for sometime now getting a number of To Do items completed. They were just thinking about expanding the Nexus but that would entail a shutdown of current ops and they could ill afford to do that for themselves and Earth. The Nexus was seeing a steady, but growing transfer of Earthly goods to outer space while unique “alien” goods were coming to Earth in greater numbers. That’s what good business looked like and it was peaceful, mostly.

While reviewing all the things they had to get done, the *AnaDarko* dropped down and some of the kids aboard got to visit with their parents. One of which was Able, Son of Van and Torina, and the other was Budge, adopted Son of Funboy and Gabby. Still, these two were now Peacemaker Adepts and had a job to do aboard the *AnaDarko* under the watchful eye of Dak Kellog, Peacemaker and Captain of the ship. But, soon their visit had to end since they had a mission to perform. Will visiting with Van, Kellog mentioned that he had a message from Dayna Jasskins, formerly of the *Quite Room*, the central bank for most of the universe.

Van was curious as to why Dayna had just twist-commed him to discuss whatever she wanted, but he still got to the message thumb drive quickly. He found out that she was seriously telling him that the twist-comm network that everyone in known space used on a daily or routine basis was dangerously compromised. She also knew that T-Comm, the corporation responsible for the only twist-comm system in the galaxy was not doing anything to secure their network. Dayna was worried that critical information was begin intercepted by those not intended for and specifically by the Stillness. She asked Van if he would get his folks looking at a possible alternative to T-Comms system. She was also willing to back this effort with 20 million bonds! So, Perry was assigned to see if there were any alternatives and if so, how much it might cost. Van definitely knew that vital comms were being intercepted which could track his and any other Peacemaker’s movements. That was not good.

Then Van and company got word that Cataric and Miryam had returned from Helso. They hadn’t come directly to Earth, but had stopped off at Pont Alus Kyr. Miryam had requested to see every one of her friends as soon as possible and it didn’t sound all that good. Miryam was getting or was old. She had discarded the idea of regeneration therapy available to most people not on Earth, but after meeting and falling in love with Cataric, she had changed her mind. But now there was only so much time left for her to live. She felt the time was near when nothing more was going to extend her life much longer. So, of course, Van and everyone that could pile into the *Fafnir* and *Frankie* took off for Pont Alus Kyr in orbit above Earth.

Even just visiting with Miryam didn’t stop the danger that the Stillness posed. They soon got word that two drones were heading straight for Pont Alus Kyr and they were close. So, now the real fighting starts. You’ll read about other engagements including a rescue of the *AnaDarko* which really gets some Mothers aboard the Fafnir steaming made. That attack directly went against their children and they weren’t going to let that slide. Then there’s the attacks on the Peacemaker Academy in Bogalusa, LA. That again was against unarmed kids who were just trying to learn how to become Peacemaker Adepts. They were still children. So, all of these attacks meant something to Van and that was he was going to go to war with the Stillness and end it once and for all.

So, that really means there will be another book in the series. Book 29, “Splinter Faction”, is now available on Amazon.
