Gathering Storm

It finally looks like Hank Spears and his group of Twain fighters are actually going to go after Twain. They have come this far but wandered off tangent mission until now. Twain, the evil AI from the old war, has been plotting his takeover of all civilization for the past two-hundred years. Now it seems he’s putting his plans to work. HIs minions are now attacking numerous places throughout the galaxy and Hank and company need help.

They’ve called in General Amory “Ammo” Livingstone and her Peacers to help with attacking different locations. Hank and his immediate company went after what they thought was a strategic point in Twain’s battle only to find out that it was a ruse. Twain’s minions were actually attacking Parm while Triumvirate and Governor Vince Delfina, Imogen’s Uncle, was busy trying to defend himself.

They once thought their battle to defeat Code Name: Extinction was a major battle, but now seeing the huge amount of starfighters Twain had circling Parm, they thought that old battle was just a skirmish. The *Buzzard* took a lot of hits but it got them down to the ground. The fought through all of Twains ground troop Disciples and found Vince in his office fighting for his life. They quickly extracted him and with some great difficulty, got him aboard the *Buzzard* and headed away from the planet Parm. There was some thoughts amount Hanks crew as to why they had been so successful in getting Vince away from Parm. It just didn’t seem like they were all targeted as they should have been, but they were all certainly glad everyone was still alive.

Governor Delfina told them he was still in the fight and he needed to go to Emortium, seat of the Consortium government. There he would meet with the other two Triumvirates and they would begin throwing the full weight of the Consortium against Twain, or so Delfina thought. He didn’t think he’d have to still convince his fellow Triumvirates that Twain was real and that he had gone to war with the entire galaxy, but his thinking wasn’t entirely correct. These two were consummate politicians and were going to debate everything until there was nothing left. Hank and company had other pressing matters so they left Vince to do his job.

While leaving Emortium, Imogen was very quiet and Hank knew that something was up. When he asked her about it, she stated that her Uncle didn’t exactly act like the man she had know for a long time. There were just subtle things that he said and did that made her begin to worry. She had come to the conclusion that Uncle Vince Delfina had probably been taken over by Twain! Hank immediately agreed with her assessment and decided that they needed to get Vince away from Emortium before he did something disastrous for the Consortium and all humanity. They asked Edwin, the resident mad scientist, if he could de-program someone without killing them. He said he could be he needed some kind of special computer.

So, now Hank and company have to find this special computer knowing that there’s probably only one in existence since it was part of the old war two-hundred years ago. It would be considered a valuable artifact and would be closely held by whomever had it now. They called upon the Intermediary to see if she had any first-hand knowledge about the whereabouts of such a computer. She did and told them it was being shipped by a freighter. So, Hank and company made plans to stop that ship and steal the computer, something he hoped wouldn’t cause too much grief since he and his people were supposed to be the good guys and not a bunch of pirates. Something also told him that it was mighty convenient that this freighter with this particular cargo was going to be available to them just right now. He got the feeling someone was playing him.

And that’s kind of how the whole book goes. Hank and his troops are led from one thing to another trying to defeat Twain who seems to be calculating their every move. There are a lot of disparate organizations within the galaxy all fighting separate wars against Twain. He was going to be able to defeat them in detail, piece by piece, unless something changed. Could Hank Spears, former Scrapper and now Bounty Hunter, get enough of these pieces together to fight as one against Twain.

This story is certainly not over. Book 12, “Twain’s Reckoning”, now available on Amazon should be a dozy of a fight.
