Reckoning

The Archangels have their hands full. They are trying to fight against three different factions all with more assets than they have. Yes, the Director of SID Phillip Montanelli, did provide Brent Parthet and the remaining Archangels with a gift of a lot of military hardware. But he wasn’t actually friendly to what Brent was trying to do since he had been behind the cause of the last Southwind war. Parthet and the Archangels were putting those assets to good use against both General Conrad Janus and the Consortium Chief Executive Victor Duret. But Brent knew that they couldn’t continue to fight this way since all three other organizations were very strong!

So Brent figured it was time to talk to each of these guys and see if he could work out some compromises. He still wanted Victor Duret and Phillip Montanelli to pay for their previous actions that resulted in the death of millions of humans and Southwind as well. The Southwind didn’t start the war, but those two humans had created a massive terrorist attack that killed thousands of humans and blamed the attack on the Southwind!

Brent Parthet was part of General Janus’ Archangels at the time and he did his share of killing Southwind military personnel. But it wasn’t until after the war that he managed to find a Southwind soldier that knew what had really happened. While not necessarily a friend, he did protect Willwood from being hunted by the SID Directorate and the Consortium CEO. After thoroughly interrogating Willwood, Brent came to the conclusion that the humans were wrong to have attacked the Southwind.

Now these same people, or at least Duret and Montanelli were trying to put together another war and blame it on the Southwind. Of course, both of these guys would benefit from the military hardware contracts and the humans who built these weapons wanted the business. If they were happy, then most of the humans would feel protected because it was widely known that Southwind did not have much of a military! That right there made Parthet madder than anything else. He was led to kill a species of humans that were basically innocent and could barely protect themselves.

Unfortunately, talking to all three individually was not going to work. So Brent came up with a plan to get all three to a neutral site and then have a thorough discussion about what was happening. Of course Brent knew that any meeting like this could turn into a death sentence for anyone not prepared. And Brent’s Archangels were the least powerful of any of the groups that needed to meet. He knew that all of these guys would bring backup and not let an opportunity to eliminate the other players if at all possible!

I found this book interesting but there were a lot of boring parts. Brent keeps going back to the days when all the Archangels were working for General Janus as he’s the one that came up with the program in the first place. Now he’s apparently making clones of himself! He and these other guys are also building their own army of archangels or warriors that were significantly enhanced. If these all were let loose, there would be no telling how many people in the galaxy would die.

Ok, so this isn’t the end of the story. It seems that Brent Parthet has plans of his own to regenerate the Archangels. He’s found a lab that has the necessary scientific information, but now he’s got to find someone to run the place the way he wants it ran. This appears to be the last book in this series and it might be a very good one. Book 5, “Rebirth”, no available on Amazon.
